INDESmed team and facilities in Madrid

Madrid, since 2011

Our story

  1. 2008 · The beginning

In 2008 Rafael Vidal survived the Spanair air crash. During his recovery he experienced first-hand the functional and ergonomic limitations of many traditional assistive devices.

As both a user and an engineer, he saw that part of the healthcare sector still had ample room to apply advanced engineering and design products better adapted to people.

  2. 2011 · INDESmed is born

In 2011 he founded INDESmed in Madrid to turn that vision into proprietary medical solutions, combining clinical knowledge, engineering and an understanding of user needs.

The first development was a carbon-fiber crutch weighing just 220 grams — the lightest in the world — able to support 200 kg, with a patented geometry designed to improve ergonomics.

It was the first of fourteen international patents.

An assistive device should help, not limit. It must be ergonomic, functional and beautiful. Designing that way means truly thinking about the person who uses it. That is the essence of INDESmed.

  3. Today · A medical innovation company

Today INDESmed develops proprietary solutions in mobility, orthopaedics, vision, hearing and health, always starting from a concrete need.

We design and develop in Madrid under an ISO 13485 quality system, combining bioengineering, electronics and medical devices.

For us, technology is not an end in itself: it is the tool to turn real problems into better solutions for people.

Switching from conventional crutches to my INDESmed carbon fiber crutches was like landing in the 21st century after taking a flight in the 20th.... A joy!
